What is an Exhibition?
What is an Exhibition?
An exhibition is a show and a presentation where the artwork is introduced to the intended audience. The exhibition features a collection of work and can include a wide range of paintings, videos, and audio clips. There is a long history behind the notion that people organizing and categorizing art, dating all the way back to before people could read and write.
Exhibitions don’t have to be limited in scope, but most have a focus that deals with a topic or issue. Exhibitions are important because they allow a connection to be made in many different ways. Networking and community building does exist at the exhibition, and is a good way to talk about the ideas behind the art work.
The way exhibitions work is that artists make the artwork and then a group of people called curators organize the artwork. The way an exhibition is organized, should in some way reflect the artwork that is being presented to the community. Publicity is another factory that needs to be thought about when putting together a show. Good techniques can be as simple as paper copies or business cards, posters, websites, and the best publicity can be word of mouth.
Things to consider if organizing and event should include things such as, the length of the exhibition. How the work is going to be display or presented to the audience. Sometimes that considering using frames for paintings and drawings, and cases or pedestals for sculptures or other three dimensional works of art. For audio, issues of sound quality and what devices should be used to produce the sound. Exhibitions traditionally are debuted in galleries where the work produced by the artists.
What can be different and exciting about an exhibition is the connection the that can artwork will make beyond the traditional gallery. By uploading the content to the internet, via Vocolo.org and Youtube.com, the artwork will have a wider audience and reach more people. In the historical sense, these new media will be ground breaking because it truly will be an exhibition without walls.
